Your Shed Your Yard
Tips and trends for homeowners, buyers, and sellers
You love gardening and must store your tools and your garage is so full, you want more storage space!
Building a shed can add that extra push when it comes to selling your home. We all know that many buyers jump to the offer, making a brand new shed that deciding factor.
First —
Consider what your shed will be storing as that will determine the size. Do you need room for lawnmowers, snow blowers, and lawn chairs and hoses? When it comes to size, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Make sure your shed is big enough to fit all your miscellaneous items.
Budget —
Next, how much is the budget you have set for this project? What materials will you use? Are you going to work on this project by yourself or will you be hiring a professional? Steve Schappert estimates the cost of a shed build ranging from anywhere between $100 and $15,000 and more!
Zoning —
Research your local municipality zoning ordinances. Although your shed will be on your land, you may need a permit before you can begin building. You will want to obtain a plat survey to ensure you are building on your land.
Prepare —
Finally, before you begin building, make sure the site has been prepared properly. The ground should be dry and level. You also may want to put your shed a bit above ground so water can drain properly.
