“What is my purpose?” 75% of Americans have no idea.
Connecticut Real Estate & The Connecticut Art Gallery present 12 Tips
1. Put yourself first
Ever wonder why they tell you on an airplane to put the oxygen mask on yourself first? You can’t help family, friends and others if you are dead. Find what you enjoy and do that, recharge your batteries and offer the world the best version of you. The answers you are looking for will come after you feed your brain with positive thoughts about your dreams and aspirations and then relax, just let it sink in. Your subconscious mind is millions of times more powerful than your conscious mind. Fill it up and wait.
2. Accept yourself
Because you are what you choose to become. There is only one you in the entire universe, don’t worry about being someone else, thrive by identifying your strengths and weaknesses. Stop the negativity and fuel the imagination. Turn up your self-confidence. Every perceived failure is simply one more step to success. Understand hard work will outwork talent every time. You wouldn’t have the desire if you couldn’t achieve it. Love yourself without belittling others and you will find peace and happiness.
3. Create your personal vision statement
Life is going to happen no matter what your plan is. A vision statement for yourself will help guide you. You are not the sum of what happened to you, you are the sum of the decisions you make along the way. I am not saying it is easy, many of us are hit with more challenges than we saw coming, but every day is a new opportunity to move in a different direction. Success is never a straight line, you will have to zig and zag while keeping your eye on the vision. A vision statement is the big picture for your lifetime and beyond.
4. Surround yourself with people who inspire you
You can’t expect to reach your maximum potential if those around you put you down verbally, physically and emotionally. Your friends, associates and mentors are the fuel that fires your success. Choose wisely!
5. Develop your growth mindset
Growing to become a better you will help you find your purpose and the strength to continue toward it. Developing a growth mindset will help you overcome the obstacles in your life. No matter what your current skills are there are no pre-set limits to what you can achieve. Keep moving forward, learn from every experiment and listen to every constructive criticism.
6. Let your pain create your purpose
Life is struggle, it’s what shapes us. If you’re ok with remaining a lump of coal that’s great, go sit in the corner and quietly watch life go by. Diamonds require pressure to shine. We don’t all have to be billionaires to be happy and there is no guarantee that a billion will keep a smile on your face. You have to find your own path and walk it to your own personal happyville! If you don’t find the purpose to your pain it will stay painful. What can you learn from it?
7. Let your passion guide you
Passion is a strong and barely controllable emotion. What are you passionate about? What are you really good at? It is very likely that you got really good at something because you are passionate about it and you keep doing it over and over again to feel that emotion, stimulation, pride or sense of well-being.
8. Read and read it again
Stretch your mind by reading. Fiction allows your mind to put you in the shoes of the character. Your mind will apply imagination to see how you would solve the issues faced by the character. Nonfiction provides a step-by-step process outlined by the data presented or the biographical stories. feed your brain and find your purpose!
9. Stand up for your beliefs
“Whatever you believe in – live that. Others will try to talk you out of your dreams…do not listen. “We all have something that we feel passionately about. Fighting for a cause can be a way of giving back, building a community or simply doing something you are passionate about. Surround yourself with great people that are thoughtful and dedicated and there is nothing you can’t do, including finding more purpose in your life.
10. Be grateful
Say Thank You! Focusing on gratitude as well as being altruistic can increase your sense of purpose and lead to random acts of kindness. As a society, we may find saying thank you a little weird because we have so many skeptical and negative thoughts in our heads. Take a few minutes to write down a few things you are grateful. Thank God, Allah, Jehovah, the universe, your parents, children, friends, whatever is comfortable to you. The important part is to simply be grateful for what you have and who you are.
11. Give more than you get
Giving back, can enhance your sense of meaning and purpose in life. You help yourself by helping others, it can actually become addictive. But, if you don’t mind smiling all the time you should be fine. One warning though if you find one particular person in your life taking more than they give, tread with caution. If you share a little bit of you with the masses the math should work out for you . A favorite question of mine is, “how can I help.” Be the reason your community pays it forward.
