Position Overview:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Connecticut Real Estate is a pivotal member of the executive team, responsible for overseeing the financial health and sustainability of the company. The CFO will manage all aspects of financial planning, risk management, record-keeping, and financial reporting, ensuring that the company remains financially robust and strategically agile. This role is crucial for guiding the company’s financial strategy and supporting its long-term growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Planning and Strategy:
- Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the company’s business objectives.
- Oversee the preparation and management of budgets, forecasts, and financial models.
- Provide strategic recommendations to the CEO and executive team based on financial analysis and projections.
- Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Present financial reports to the CEO, board of directors, and stakeholders, highlighting key metrics and insights.
- Conduct in-depth financial analysis to support decision-making and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Risk Management:
- Identify, assess, and manage financial risks, including market, credit, and operational risks.
- Develop and implement risk management policies and procedures to mitigate potential financial threats.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards to protect the company’s assets and reputation.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to develop realistic and achievable budgets.
- Monitor actual performance against budgets, identifying variances and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Prepare long-term financial forecasts to support strategic planning and growth initiatives.
- Treasury and Cash Management:
- Manage the company’s cash flow to ensure sufficient liquidity for operations and investments.
- Oversee banking relationships and optimize the company’s capital structure.
- Implement cash management strategies to maximize returns on cash holdings.
- Investment and Financing:
- Evaluate and manage investment opportunities to support the company’s growth and expansion.
- Oversee fundraising activities, including debt and equity financing, to ensure adequate capital for strategic initiatives.
- Manage relationships with investors, lenders, and financial institutions to secure favorable terms and conditions.
- Accounting and Compliance:
- Oversee the accounting function to ensure accurate and timely record-keeping.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and financial reporting requirements.
- Coordinate with external auditors to ensure successful completion of audits and address any issues or recommendations.
- Operational Efficiency:
- Implement financial systems and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Utilize financial technology and tools to streamline operations and enhance financial reporting.
- Monitor and control operating expenses to improve profitability and cost efficiency.
- Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of excellence, integrity, and continuous improvement.
- Provide training and development opportunities to enhance the skills and capabilities of the finance team.
- Promote collaboration and effective communication within the finance department and across the organization.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a CFO or in a senior financial leadership role, preferably within the real estate, construction, finance, or technology sectors.
- Strong knowledge of corporate financial law and risk management practices.
- Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods.
- Proficient in the use of financial management software and tools.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a high-performing finance team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field (MBA or other advanced degree preferred).
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation is a plus.
